Buckner leaders join Greater Dallas Movement Day to ignite spiritual change in the metroplex

DALLAS – Church pastors and community leaders from across the metroplex will come together for the inaugural Greater Dallas Movement Day in a collaborative effort to promote spiritual growth and social change within DFW. The event will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 at the Dallas Convention Center located at 650 S. Griffin Street.

Buckner International’s President and CEO Albert Reyes will serve as one of the conference’s keynote speakers along with Mayor Mike Rawlings, Tim Keller, Mac Pier, Rev. Brian Carter, and others as they bring the community together to tackle some of the biggest issues of our city including:

• 97 percent fatherlessness rate in South Dallas
• 85 percent non-readiness of 18-year-olds for college
• Dallas has the highest number of refugees of any city in the nation
• Less than 10 percent of the student population is involved in religious activities*

“Greater Dallas Movement Day is an effort to mobilize churches and agencies to bring about measurable change against the greatest spiritual, social and humanitarian challenges of our time,” Reyes said. “I am excited to have the opportunity to be a part of this game-changing initiative for the city of Dallas as Greater Dallas Movement Day brings about the kingdom of God in very near and tangible ways.”

The event will be broken up into two parts. In the morning, Tim Keller will be joined by other guest speakers as they cast a vision for what a gospel movement can do to change the spiritual landscape of Dallas.

The second half of the day will be made up of a series of breakout sessions providing an opportunity for leaders, churches and agencies to collaborate and formulate best practices for change. Work sessions will center on specific impact tracks including education, human trafficking, hunger solutions, vulnerable children and others. Buckner staff will lead the design team for the vulnerable children track, which will be focused on children impacted by foster care.

“I am thrilled that Buckner, with our rich heritage of serving children, families and seniors, has been included as an integral part of this dynamic effort,” Reyes said. “Since our establishment by R.C. Buckner in 1879, the vision for Buckner International has always been to transform the lives of the vulnerable through living out the truth of the gospel.”
