(BEAUMONT, Texas) — Valero Energy Corporation donated $25,000 to Buckner Children and Family Services in Southeast Texas.
The funds were collected at the 2008 Valero Texas Open, one of the oldest and most prestigious tournaments on the PGA Tour.
Barbara Phillips, public affairs manager in the Valero Port Arthur refinery, said that Valero collected more than 8.5 million dollars for non-profit organizations this year and that Port Arthur was allotted $670,000 to be distributed among children’s charities.
Besides Buckner, the charities selected included Girl’s Haven, CASA of Southeast Texas, Project Access, Port Arthur Spurs, YMCA of Port Arthur and IEA – Inspire, Encourage, Achieve.
“Valero is honored to continue this great mission of helping children’s charities in all of the areas where Valero operates – including Port Arthur,” Phillips said. “We know that in this trying economy, the community must come together even more to support those who serve the needy. Children are always at the heart of Valero’s mission in the community.”
Greg Eubanks, director and team leader of Buckner Children and Family Services in Southeast Texas, said that the donation will be used to benefit the children living at Buckner Children’s Village in Beaumont.
“Valero has been one of our most faithful contributors over the years and I am able to see, daily, the benefits that they have brought to our children,” Eubanks said. “Valero makes them feel valued.”
