Students, staff and baseball players from Dallas Baptist University shared their love for Christ and baseball as they traveled to Guatemala City Sept. 31 – Oct. 5 to conduct orphanage ministry by day and compete against the Guatemala National Baseball Team by night.
Baseball and ministry went hand in hand for the players as they led baseball clinics with hundreds of young boys and girls. Students, including cheerleaders and Diamond Belles, a group dedicating to supporting the baseball team, ministered through Bible stories and recreation at several orphanages in Guatemala City and Antigua.
“For me, when we play baseball, we can minister to others by how we carry ourselves on the field,” said baseball player Bryon Dykes. “Hopefully others will see God’s grace shining through us and want to follow in our footsteps.”
Preston Hagaman, a senior from Decatur, Texas, said, “We didn’t come here simply for these children to learn a new song or a verse, we came here to love. The one thing I hope they take away from our time here is that this love isn’t just from us, it’s from Christ.”
