Buckner Family Hope Center founder named 2015 Outstanding Woman

HOUSTON – The North Harris County Branch of the American Association of University Women named Buckner Family Hope Center Houston/Aldine founder Sylvia Bolling as one of their 2015 outstanding women.

The association chapter presented the award to Bolling on Feb. 28 in honor of more than two decades of community service in the Aldine area.

“Sylvia Bolling, author of the book "When God Gives You a Vision," was recognized for dedicating her life to ensure that young people have encouragement and hope,” said Vada Boyle, the chapter’s president. “Her efforts to provide after-school activities for young people to keep them off the streets and out of trouble grew and morphed into Buckner Family Hope Center at Aldine. Today, the center offers more than 25 programs for youth and families.”

Bolling began ministering in the Aldine community 25 years ago. She first handed out food and basic staples from the trunk of her car, then grew the effort.
