Forty-six Dallas-area families in need received free car service courtesy of Cummins Sales and Service and in partnership with Buckner Children and Family Services’ local programs.

Thirty-one cars belonging to families served through Buckner Family Pathways and Buckner Family Hope Center at Wynnewood received free oil changes, check-ups and additional maintenance to ensure safe, reliable transportation. The families also received an emergency roadside kit that included one year of roadside assistance.

“At Cummins, we are committed to giving back to our communities,” said Susan Cleaver, vice president of business improvement for Cummins Sales and Service. “We are proud to partner with Buckner International and are grateful for this opportunity to serve their clients.”

An additional 15 cars belonging to participants of the Genesis Women’s Shelter were also maintained as part of Cummins’ Oil Change for Survivors program.

“The Oil Change for Survivors program is a great example of how we use our unique technical skills to provide assistance to families in need as they strive to make a better life for themselves. The program was launched in July 2017, and today was our 16th and most successful event in terms of the number of families served,” Cleaver added.

The car service was conducted at Cummins Sales and Service at 4855 Mountain Creek Pkwy, where attending families were also treated to games and activities for the children, such as face painting.

Buckner Family Pathways is a Buckner International program providing single-parent families the opportunity to live in a safe, secure environment while completing their educational or vocational goals and learning the skills needed to become self-sufficient. Likewise, the Buckner Family Hope Center at Wynnewood works to keep families together by providing critical services, aid and coaching to keep them strong and decrease the likelihood of abuse, neglect and removal of children.

“Buckner is committed to bettering the lives of families in need of support, and we are thankful to Cummins for helping further protect these families by ensuring the cars they drive to work, school and church are safe and maintained,” said Candace Gray, senior executive director of Buckner in North Texas.
