Buckner establishes fund to respond to Kenyan violence

(DALLAS, Texas) — In his Monday blog, Buckner International President Kenneth Hall announced the establishment of a fund to respond to the recent political crisis and violence in Kenya.

Hall said funds given to Buckner Kenya Crisis Relief “will be used to answer the needs of food, clothing, supplies, health care and housing repairs and construction for both the children in our care and the neighborhoods where we provide ministry.

“We’ve had time to digest the situation in Kenya and discover the needs from the aftermath of the political violence, and now it’s time to act,” said Hall. “I in no way want to insinuate that the political violence in Kenya has passed. The violence from the previous two weeks has caused more than 500 deaths and left 250,000 homeless. The Kenya crisis is not unlike the devastation we experienced from Hurricane Katrina.”

Randy Daniels, Buckner vice president for Global Initiatives, said Buckner Kenya Crisis Relief “will insure much-needed funds get to Kenya to be used by our Kenyan staff to be the hands and feet of Christ as they minister to orphans and at-risk children and families put at risk by the violence.”

Buckner has an extensive ministry in Kenya. Its Baptist Children’s Center in Nairobi and Seed of Hope Children’s Home in Kitale care for a total of 115 orphans, and schools there serve an additional 75 children. Buckner also oversees 43 foster homes in the country, which care for 80 children, and preschools and community ministries in two slum locations provide education and support for 180 children and at-risk families.
