(DALLAS, Texas) — Individuals who want to collect Shoes for Orphan Souls can now conduct their own virtual drives over the Internet.
"We are asking individuals to be a SoleMate by collecting at least 12 pairs of shoes either by Internet or physically," said Rachel Garton, director of Shoes for Orphan Souls. "Although we had individuals conducting shoe drives in the past, we never offered them the opportunity to do it online."
Virtual shoe drives will allow SoleMates to build their own page, send e-mails asking for contributions and keep track of how far they are from reaching their collection goal. $25 donations can be made by credit card online. Each donation of $25 buys one pair of shoes, and a minimum 12-shoe collection is required for each SoleMate drive.
"SoleMates is a great opportunity for community service," Garton said. "Sometimes children are looking for ways to serve in the community and this is a great way to do it. Girl Scouts can even earn a badge for taking part in this. And it's good for developing leadership among youth."
Shoes for Orphan Souls distributes shoes to at-risk children in the United States and to orphans in 55 countries around the world.
