Foster Care and Adoption
Millions of children around the world have been abandoned or neglected, orphaned due to disease or neglect, and desperately need a loving place to call home. You can be a family to a child in need through one of the many foster care and adoption programs Buckner provides.
"Three years ago, we said "yes" to God's calling to adopt one of His special
children in Guatemala—Juan Pablo. We had been on a couple of Buckner
mission trips to the country to minister to orphans, and like most, returned to
the U.S. with our hearts captured by precious children and burdened to do
something more. Admittedly, we were a scared young married couple who
had suffered pregnancy loss several times. Initially, our hearts were set on the
adoption of a perfect little baby through an agency, but when we brought
our desires before the Lord, He reminded us of an older child with scars on
his face and a possible terminal illness.
The journey with God over the following three years rocked our world. We
experienced miracles and God moving mountains right in front of our eyes.
We began to see things through His eyes and just how beautiful Juan Pablo
and the other special needs children were in his home."
Domestic Infant Adoption
For families in Texas, the domestic infant adoption program places newborns
with Christian couples, usually straight from the hospital. As an open adoption
program, Buckner works with birth parents during the pregnancy to determine
a plan for the baby's future.
International Adoption
For families in all 50 states, Buckner and Dillon International offer the opportunity for families to adopt
internationally. There are a large number of children in orphanages who could
benefit from a loving, nurturing home.
Waiting Texas Children
Adopting a child who has been removed from their home because of
challenging life situations is a wonderful way to be a family. At any given
time, there are children available for adoption through the Texas Department
of Family and Protective Services.
Foster Adoption
As a Buckner foster parent, you may want to discover the joy of permanently
adding a child to your family. Our foster-to-adopt services offer you the
possibility to adopt foster children who reside in your home.
Foster Care
The Buckner Foster Care program provides the unique opportunity for a family
to share their home with a child in need of a temporary home. Currently, there
are approximately 500,000 children living in foster homes in the United States
with close to 30,000 in Texas. Many of these children have been removed from
their homes for abuse or neglect.
When you become a Buckner foster parent, you make an investment in the life
of a child. These are children who belong in families – children who need
families to love and care for them.
As a Buckner foster parent, you are part of a family that has been caring for
children and families since 1879. With ministries throughout Texas and around
the world, Buckner is a strong, stable support system for you and your foster child.
Bruce and Denise Kendrick have provided home to 25 foster children in need
of care. They have also adopted one teenage son, in addition to caring for their
three biological children.
"The best part of fostering," says Denise, "is getting to see kids who may have
been neglected or abused really start to blossom and the more you invest
in them, you get to see their true personalities come out when they're not
hungry or afraid."
