Number of children sleeping in CPS offices spiked in March

Last week, The Dallas Morning News reported that the number of children sleeping in Texas Child Protective Services' offices doubled in the month of March.

The increase is partly attributed to the increase in the number of children being taken into foster care, and in part to the lack of willing, qualified foster parents available throughout the state.

“We have a tremendous need for foster families,” shares Samela Macon, Buckner Senior Director of Domestic Foster Care and Adoption. “There’s a shortage of families and a shortage of families who can take in sibling groups or children who need therapeutic care. Beyond providing places of safety, foster families provide love and stability for children at their most vulnerable. Texas needs families to step forward to care for these children in need.”

If you and your family have been considering foster parenting, now’s the time to take the next step. Children do not belong in offices, they belong in families.

To find out more about becoming a foster parent, attend an information meeting at your local Buckner office or request more information here.

Claudia england says:
I am interested in volunteering in some capacity. I am a licensed ordained minister and I'm certified to teach Redirecting Childrens Behavior parenting program. I was a foster parent to several children when my three children were young. I have a young man living with me and my husband who was placed at Buckner Orphanage as a young boy in the Conroe center. He also desires to volunteer there in whatever way he can. He feels he owes it to you to pay back for helping him as a young boy. Hope to hear from you soon.
Buckner Communications says:
Claudia, thank you for wanting to volunteer. We are so appreciative of all our volunteers. Someone will be following up with you shortly.
