Buckner Children and Family Services leaders have announced that Shawna Roy has been named director of the new Buckner Family Hope Center of Houston, slated to open in June in South Houston.

Henry Jackson, senior vice president of BCFS, said he is “excited” to announce Roy’s position change. A veteran Buckner leader, Roy has served since 2014 as director of the Buckner Family Hope Center at Aldine.

“Shawna’s experience as the Aldine director and as a proven leader in the Houston area made her the right choice to open and lead our new Family Hope Center,” Jackson said. “Her new position is a strategic one for Buckner as we continue to grow and develop our Houston ministry presence.”

Jackson said the new Family Hope Center, currently in construction, is located within the new Cornerstone Community in South Houston.

“Cornerstone is a collaboration between Buckner, Star of Hope Mission and New Hope Housing Inc., where we also will move the Buckner Family Pathways of Houston program next month. We anticipate the new Family Hope Center to be open and serving clients by June.”

In her new role, Roy will oversee the functions of the new Family Hope Center, including family coaching, after-school programs and adult empowerment initiatives.

In addition to directing the Buckner Family Hope Center at Aldine, Roy previously served as a director for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston and in multiple roles for the Aldine YOUTH Community Center (now the Buckner Family Hope Center) when it was both a stand-alone ministry and a Buckner ministry. Her mother, Sylvia Bolling, founded Aldine YOUTH 29 years ago and is a well-known name in the Houston nonprofit community.

Roy earned an associate's degree in business management from North Harris Community College and a bachelor’s degree in business studies and business administration from Southern New Hampshire University.
