Sierra Leone

Sierra Leona is located in West Africa and borders the Atlantic Ocean, Liberia and Guinea. Democracy is slowly being reestablished in Sierra Leone after a civil war from 1991 to 2002 killed tens of thousands people and displaced more than 2 million (about one-third of the population).

The Problem
• 17.5% of all children in Sierra Leone are orphans

• There is a very high risk of infectious disease, mostly preventable.

What Buckner is Doing
In 2009, Buckner began working with First Baptist Church Arlington to establish its services to help children and families in Sierra Leone.
