(JERSEY VILLAGE, Texas) – Buckner foster and adoptive families will share personal testimonies of how to “Be a Family” through foster care and adoption at an informal interest meeting Sunday, Jan. 20 from 6-7 p.m. at Jersey Village Baptist Church, located at 16518 Jersey Drive.
In addition to personal testimonies, verified foster care specialists will explain the requirements necessary to pursue foster care and adoption in the state of Texas. The interest meeting is a pre-requisite for any individuals or families planning to take the PRIDE foster care training course in February or March.
There are more than 34,000 children in the foster care system in Texas – 6,500 in the Houston area, alone.
“There is a huge need for people to open their hearts and homes to foster children in the Houston area,” said Jon Hogg, Buckner Children and Family Services. “Thousands of children in our community have been abused or neglected – and what they need more than anything else is a loving home with a caring adult.
“You don’t have to be perfect to be a foster parent. You just need to love.”
Buckner will provide the required PRIDE foster care training course at Jersey Village Baptist Church from Jan. 29 – Feb. 28, meeting every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.
PRIDE classes will also be offered on Saturdays beginning March 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Buckner, located at 3100 S. Gessner, Suite 109.
