(MARBLE FALLS) — Record rainfall and widespread flooding in Central Texas has caused Camp Buckner to shut down early this week and cancel next week’s Session 4 July 1-7. The camp has experienced minor flood damage, but with more than 10 inches of rain expected in the next few days, camp staff is taking every precaution.
Parents of children in session have been notified to pick up their children early.
“The kids are staying busy indoors, and everyone is doing fine,” said Chad Patterson, director of Camp Buckner. “Our number one goal is to keep our campers safe, and this is part of what we need to do.”
Staff plans to repair the storm and flood damage during the cancelled session to ensure camp will resume the following week. Children originally scheduled to attend camp July 1-7 will receive a full refund. Those forced to leave early will receive a pro-rated refund.
“It’s unfortunate, and I know we will have a lot of disappointed kids,” Patterson said. “But due to circumstances, we have no choice. We have to keep everyone safe. And we will do our best to help reschedule some of the campers for another week.”
Staff has asked for prayers for Central Texas and the Marble Falls community as they face an unrelenting rainy forecast and weeks of clean up ahead.
