Buckner Children’s Village Buckner Children’s Village is home to more than 45 children and adolescents in four houses. Since 1970, the Children’s Village has provided a loving, Christian home for children with traumatic backgrounds who need a place to find hope and healing. Our teens attend public schools, participate in many extracurricular activities and are active in the community. At Buckner, we intentionally work to provide our residents with experiences to encourage generosity and independence. Above all we strive to ensure that every child who calls Buckner ‘home’ will know that they have found a place to belong. The Emergency Shelter/Assessment Center is a temporary home to children from age 5-17, offering a sanctuary from previous trauma while creating a full assessment of each child’s needs. Many residents transfer from this home to foster care or to another house on campus. Our three additional houses make up the residential group care program, a long-term home for teenagers preparing for the independence of adulthood. We are an active group, with students pursing activities that interest every teenager, such as sports, band, jobs, dating and looking forward to college and career. For many of these teens, no matter where they go, Buckner will always be home. Will you do something for children? Give your talent: Share an activity or craft with children. Adopt a room and decorate with bedding, towels, desk accessories and more. Consider becoming a child care specialist. Give your resources: Sponsor a resident with a monthly allowance. Provide holiday items or back-to-school needs. Help send a child on a Buckner mission trip to experience ministry firsthand.
