If you’ve ever taken a trip for a significant period of time, you know how good it feels to come home. The bed feels perfect. Everything is right where it should be. Home feels familiar, even calm. Home is the place you belong.

Children who have been removed from their families as a result of abuse and neglect are on a traumatic journey. Along the way, they leave all that is familiar behind, including their friends and loved ones. Emotionally, they are hurting.

In the midst of all the uncertainty in their lives, they never stop dreaming of a home. A place where they are safe. A place where they are cared for. A blessed place with a family who loves them.

It's important to remember God cares for these children. Each day, he raises up families to serve as foster and adoptive parents through Buckner International. Young people come to these homes and experience the kind of unconditional love they’ve only dreamed about. It changes their lives.

God opens people's hearts to hurting children. As a result, parents open their homes to care for them.

A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,
is God in his holy dwelling.
God sets the lonely in families –Psalm 68:5-6

What does home mean to you? What does a longing for home say about God?
