PROGRAMS

Buckner Family Place
Buckner Family in Lufkin provides families the opportunity to live in a safe secure environment while program participants learn the necessary skills needed to become self-sufficient. Families are provided support through the provision of affordable housing, high quality child care, financial assistance, vocational training, parenting education, budget training, life skills and individual and group counseling. Family Place works in collaboration with Angelina College and the Women’s Shelter of East Texas and has been operating in Lufkin since 1997.

Program applicants must be 18 years of age or older and have completed the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA). Students currently enrolled in college or a training program with a minimum 2.0 GPA are also eligible for admission. Applicants must not be in default on a student loan and have full custody of all children who will be entering the program.

Transitional Care Services
Many former residents or foster children, once removed from the structured environment, often are ill-equipped to handle situations faced in adult life. And without a support system, many find themselves unemployed and homeless. Buckner supports these children through TRAIL (Transitioning to Responsible Adult Independent Living).

TRAIL is for young adults ages 17-21 who are transitioning from Child Protective Services care to independent living. Assertive case management provides support as they work toward self-sufficiency by gaining education, job skills, life management skills and social skills. For more information, call Buckner TRAIL at 409-866-0976.

Foster Care and Adoption Services
Buckner provides families in the Longview community and surrounding areas with training and resources needed to become a family to a child living in the state’s custody or to a child available for adoption in the United States or internationally.
