A lifetime of gratitude

The Thanksgiving holiday always brings the question, “What are you thankful for?”

Many senior adults would probably tell you they could write a whole book just answering that one question. They have a lifetime of gratitude and wisdom to share after years of living through life’s ups and downs. We asked senior adults in Buckner Senior Living communities across Texas to share their thoughts on that timeless question. Here’s what they had to say:

“I’m very thankful that I have a good family close by. All my needs are taken care of, they make sure of that. I’m thankful for the beautiful place where I live.” -Agnes Northrup

“I’m thankful that I have good enough health that I can go to Houston and walk in the Houston Thanksgiving parade with my daughter and her three children and be a balloon handler! They’re going to give us disposable jump suits so we’ll all look alike. I don’t even know how long the parade route is, but I’m up for it!” -Sandy Taylor

“I’m grateful for Parkway Place. My wife and I have lived here 17 years, just two years after they opened, and we haven’t had a bad day yet! The staff and everyone here is so friendly and compassionate. We love it.” -Ray Vigneault

“I’m thankful for Buckner and the good care I’m getting here. I’m thankful for my family and the many blessings that the Lord has given me.” -Frances Fuller

“I’m thankful that I live in the United States, that I live here at Buckner Westminster Place and that people take care of me.” -Doris Ashcraft

“I’m thankful for The Lord.” -Beverlye Dodd

“I’m thankful that I’ll get to see my family for Thanksgiving. They’re all coming here to Parkway Place for Thanksgiving dinner.” -Ben Morton

“I’m thankful for family, for having a nice place like Calder Woods for my husband and I to retire near our daughter. Also for the privileges we have that a lot of people don’t have, like being comfortable and knowing we’ll be taken care of and not have to be worried about what next year may bring. The biggest thing is family, and that’s what we have here at Calder Woods. It’s like a big family!” -Nancy Bond

"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!" Psalm 107:1
