An unchanging rock

A devotion on trusting God

"Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God." – Psalm 20:7

Before we take a seat, we never really question whether or not we can sit down; we sit. But how often do we trust God at his word when he beckons us to trust him?

The Oxford Dictionary defines trust as having a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability or strength of someone or something. There may be many things we put our trust in like our job, support system, etc., but these are all things that could change at any moment.

However, God proclaims in Malachi 6 that he does not change! His unchanging nature is a rock we can always rely on.

Take, for example, a single mother who struggled to raise five children on her own after her husband left their home. Her stability with her husband's income changed, and life was different for her and her children. She worked, attended church and served as often as she could. She learned to trust God when it seemed she couldn't pay a bill due to insufficient funds. She remembered that she served a God she could trust more than her finances.

Whether you're a single mother who has experienced struggles or not, we all have endured a battle of some sort, perhaps in health, job security, grief or even insecurities about whether you can do something God is calling you to.

I encourage you to do what this single mother told me she did: believe what Psalm 50:10 says: Trust that God, who owns "the cattle on a thousand hills," can provide abundantly for every one of your needs.

Lord, we confess our lack of trust in you and our tendency to worry about how certain aspects of our lives will work out. Help us to trust you more fully and to cast our cares upon you.

I encourage you to try this affirmation: I, [Insert your name here], will trust God in all things and through all seasons because God is trustworthy in all things and through all seasons.
