Blue Sunday: A day of prayer

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and Buckner wants to assure every child lives in a safe and nurturing home

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. To remember those who are victims of abuse and neglect, Blue Sunday Child Abuse Prevention has marked Sunday, April 25 as Blue Sunday, a day to pray for the millions of victims and for those who rescue them.

Nearly 60% of children placed in foster care are there due to abuse or neglect. In 2019, there were more than 67,000 confirmed cases of child abuse or neglect in Texas.

Child abuse comes in many forms such as neglect, physical, sexual, emotional or verbal. According to Blue Sunday, one in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday.

We can come together on Blue Sunday to pray for the children. Here are a few ways to cover them in prayer.

Pray they:

  • will be rescued
  • are placed with caring people
  • can heal in mind and body
  • find hope

And pray for those who rescue children from situations of abuse.

Remember the millions of children who face this reality each day and lift them up in prayer this weekend.
