Buckner Southeast Texas celebrates ribbon cutting to open new office
The grand opening of Buckner’s new office in Southeast Texas was commemorated on May 7 with a ribbon cutting and tour of the space. Located in Beaumont, the new office space houses Buckner programs that support vulnerable children and families who call Southeast Texas home, including foster care and adoption services, family support services and the Buckner FYi Center for teens aging out of foster care.
The new office allows Buckner to better serve Southeast Texas families by creating more efficient and streamlined operations for the growing family support programs.
“We believe strong families is one of the ways we protect children. Strong families also make strong communities,” added Henry Jackson, president of Buckner Children and Family Services.
Many community members and leaders attended the celebration to get a peek at the new home of Buckner in Beaumont, including neighbors and friends from local churches, schools, nonprofit organizations and businesses.
Special guests included Mayor Roy West, Beaumont Police Department Chief Tim Ocnaschek, Brandon Kiser, district coordinator for Senator Brandon Creighton, Jennifer Harris, district coordinator for Senator Robert Nichols and Daddy Dave. In addition, Jay Wilson with the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce delivered remarks about the importance of Buckner’s work for the local community.
“The powerful collaborative spirit is one of the things I love about Southeast Texas,” said Monocra Burroughs, director of foster care and adoption for Buckner Southeast Texas. “We can do even more good in the community when we do it together. As we walk with vulnerable children and families, we are grateful to our community partners who walk alongside us.”
Last year in Southeast Texas, Buckner impacted more than 2,000 lives locally, including 54 foster care placements, 20 local adoptions and 88 young adults aging out of foster care.
Buckner programs in Southeast Texas include:
- HOPES – Coaching and education for families with children 5 years and younger.
- FAYS – Coaching and education for families with children 6 to 17 years old.
- Fatherhood EFFECT – Parenting support and education for fathers.
- Texas Home Visiting – Support, counseling and education for mothers and families who are expecting or have children under the age of 6 years old.
- The Buckner FYi Center - dedicated to serving youth aging out of foster care.
Buckner Children and Family Services has served children and families in Southeast Texas for more than 50 years – though our ministry in Texas dates to its founding in 1879.
In 1970, Buckner assumed operations of the Beaumont Children’s Home, later changing the name to Buckner Children’s Home and then the Buckner Children’s Village in 1979 after relocating to property on the west side of Beaumont.
Our local programs have since expanded to offer a variety of services to protect children, strengthen families and transform generations. Through these programs, Buckner provides the resources, support and education people need to succeed in life and fulfill their God-given potential.
