Celebrating 30 years in Longview

Three decades of serving children, families and seniors

On Aug. 9, Buckner Longview celebrated its 30th anniversary of serving vulnerable children, families and seniors in the area alongside local community members. Buckner leaders took some time to remember the impact Buckner has had on the Longview community but also a few moments to acknowledge how we will continue to serve moving forward.

Our ministry to vulnerable children, families and seniors focuses on protecting children, strengthening families, transforming generations and serving senior adults. This mission has been carried out in Longview since 1992 when the Buckner Children and Family Services offices opened.

Buckner has impacted hundreds of lives through foster care and adoption and in-home parenting education through Buckner HOPES.

Families can also plug into preservation programs like the Linda and Kenneth Hall Buckner Family Hope Center™ at Longview as well as the Mac and Tom Stone Buckner Family Pathways™ program. In addition, Buckner has offered life-enrichment and support to local senior adults at the senior living community Buckner Westminster Place since 1996.

“In 2021, our Buckner Longview team served more than 2,300 individual children and adults in the community though our children and family services programs,” said Michelle Heflin, acting director of administration and operations in Longview and Buckner HOPES supervisor. “One of the keys to serving each of those people is community collaboration.”

The celebration took place at the Family Hope Center and attendees had the opportunity to tour the facility. Representatives from local churches, other nonprofits, clubs and government agencies were in attendance.

“We are grateful to each of you and to our donors who are making this possible,” shared Dr. Albert Reyes, president and CEO of Buckner International. “Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our local Buckner team, we look forward to the next 30 years in Longview.”
