Buckner is blessed with some of the most amazing fathers. Each day, hope shines through their actions. In many ways, they reflect how a loving God cares about his children. In honor of Father’s Day next Sunday, here are some of the ways earthly fathers can emulate their heavenly father:

Great fathers are present. Like God is with his people, oustanding fathers are with the children they love. No matter what is going on in their lives, dads find ways to prioritize their children. They’re always there when they’re needed most. 

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” -Joshua 1:9 

Great fathers are compassionate. Amazing fathers care deeply about their children like God cares about each of us. They sacrifice for the sake of their children. Children know they are loved and cared for.

“The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.” -Psalm 103:8

Great fathers are in it for the long term. Christ taught and led his disciples day by day. God understands knowledge is gained one step at a time. Fatherhood is much the same way. Dedicated fathers teach their children and model behavior daily. Not every day is easy for a father or a child. Both face challenges. Sometimes each goes through a trial. Great dads find a way to stay in the moment while keeping long-term goals in mind. 

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." -2 Timothy 3:16
