Faith Focus: Remembering God's faithfulness
This morning, the hymn “Great is Thy Faithfulness” was on my lips and heart. It’s not unusual for me to wake up with a song on my heart; it happens quite often. Sometimes the songs appear out of nowhere, and I just start singing it. Other times, it’s because I heard the song recently.
I am not sure of many things in my life, but this is one thing I am sure: God is faithful! Almost every story in the Bible shows the faithfulness of God. From Abraham to Ruth to Paul, the Old and New Testaments show God’s hand upon the people who serve him.
And his faithfulness is unceasing today. I’ve seen his faithfulness in my life so many times. I've seen his faithfulness in other people’s lives. It’s easy for us to forget how faithful God is when we’re in the middle of trouble. It’s easy to let the concerns of the day shadow the truth. But it’s important to remember each day because he is faithful all the time, even when we don’t see it. God was, is and always will be faithful.
The Israelites would set up stone pillars after God performed a miracle or helped them in some way. For them it was a physical reminder of the faithfulness of God, a way to hold on to what they knew to be true, even when doubt tried to tell them otherwise.
This week, take some time to remember God’s faithfulness. Set up pillars in your heart so when trouble and doubt invade your soul, you can remember how God has been faithful in the past. God is with us and he is faithful, forever and always.
“The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is thy faithfulness.” –Lamentations 3:22-23
