Five ways you and your family can celebrate love this year
Next week is Valentine’s Day. With all the tragic events in the news recently, it may feel ingenuine to celebrate a day like Valentine's Day. But it's during the darkest times we could could all use reminders of love the most.
We encourage you to use this month to remind those around you how much you care for them – and remember how much the Lord loves you too. Take a break from the news and enjoy quiet, simple moments with your loved ones.
Here are a few activities for all ages to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year.
Create special cards to brighten someone's day.
Nothing feels better than spreading love and cheer to others. Spend an afternoon creating handmade Valentine’s cards for senior adults. If you’re looking for a place to mail them or drop them off, see if there’s a Buckner senior living community near you.
Spread love with affirmations.
Have you told your special loved ones what you love most about them lately? Enjoy words of affirmation together this year. Cut out hearts and write something you love about each other and display them. You can tape them on your mirror or bedroom door, or string them together to decorate a mantle, staircase or wall.
Bake some sweets for your sweeties.
Satisfy your sweet tooth and show someone some sweetness! Bake some delicious heart-shaped treats together (and maybe a few extra to share with a neighbor).
Get crafty.
Craft for those you love. The kids will love this simple painting activity – and all you need is paper, paint and Q-tips! Have them decorate the heart and you can display it all month long or even send it to grandparents.
Share the love of Jesus with others.
Remind others of the greatest love of all: Jesus. This month is a great opportunity to share the love of Christ with your children and with others. Here are a few Scriptures to help get you started:
- 1 John 3:1
- 1 John 4:19
- Colossians 3:14
