Friday photo: Sweet houses

Foster children in Beaumont, Texas started the Christmas season on the sweet side. Members of Wesley United Methodist Church in Nederland built gingerbread houses with 32 children served by Buckner in Southeast Texas. Together, volunteers and children built memories as they built homes candy by candy.

"We just want to do something to help Buckner children," said Marilyn Myers, the church's Christian education director and tween leader. "I've done gingerbread houses with my children since they were little. I've found everyone enjoys gingerbread houses from little bitty children all the way through.

"I hope they know somebody loves them, somebody took the time to prepare them and bring them and share them. I know they've had a lot of difficulties in their life. Hopefully this is one moment where they know somebody loved them."

Thank you to all the volunteers who help make the Christmas season special for children and families served by Buckner!
