Uncertainty as a hidden gift

A devotion on trusting God in uncertainty

Uncertainty is uncomfortable, but in the midst of uncertainty, God calls us to a place of confidence.

“For I, the Lord your God hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.” – Isaiah 41:13

I know for many, we’re constantly wondering what growth looks like, how does it affect me and what troubles it could bring.

As God calls us to trust him in uncertain times, we must trust in our agility too.  We must trust that the uncertainty we feel can result in growth – both environmentally and spiritually.

To do that, we can:

  • Give uncertainty to God
    • Trust God in uncertain times of growth & surrender all anxiety of the unknown to him.  Giving God this uncertainty provides a peace (Philippians 4:6-7).
  • Accept the work in uncertainty
    • God’s perfect work and uncertainty releases us from relying on ourselves and striving for outcomes we don’t control.  As God uses everything for our good and his glory (Romans 8:28), he uses uncertainty to work in our lives according to HIS perfect pleasure.
  • Put our trust in GOD and not in uncertainty of the circumstances
    • Don’t give the uncertainty of where you’re going or the unknowns of your situation power over your emotions, mental and spiritual well-being. The nature of uncertainty reminds us that circumstances change and reminds us that God is the same yesterday, today and always (Hebrews 13:8).
  • God is your refuge
    • In uncertain times we long for one thing – safety. All our striving to control the outcome rests on the one desire of feeling safe in our situation. Trusting God in those uncertain times, provides a refuge – a safe place amid the chaos and fear of the unknown.

Choosing to trust God in the uncertainty of growth means we step forward in faith and by faith, which in turn sharpens our faith, matures us spiritually and deepens our dependency on Christ. Only God sees the future perfectly.
