Buckner International President and CEO Albert Reyes joined Buckner Houston Interim Executive Director Shawna Roy and host Deborah Duncan on the set of Great Day Houston to discuss the need to equip vulnerable children with school supplies and the many ways Buckner is helping children, families and senior adults in Houston.

“Education is the key that unlocks the door out of poverty,” Reyes said. He and Roy asked for donations to Buckner’s city-wide school supply collection on the segment, which aired Aug. 7 on KHOU11.

Buckner is distributing school supplies and uniforms to more than 1,200 students in Houston through two Buckner Family Hope Centers. Recently, Noble Energy donated and packed backpacks and supplies for about 400 children and provided three uniforms to each. Halliburton also is donating and packing 740 backpacks and the Buckner Houston Young Professionals group already has raised more than $6,000 for back-to-school donations.
