Few events in life bring as much anticipation and enthusiasm as a wedding. Months of planning come to fruition in one beautiful day where friends and family gather to see two lives unite.

Recently that excitement was multiplied 11-fold as couples who had been working through the Buckner Family Hope Center in Peñitas, Texas were wed. The event brought together much of the community.

Buckner International President and CEO Albert Reyes officiated the wedding ceremony together with Ricardo Brambila, director of the Buckner Family Hope Center in Peñitas, and the pastoral staff of Centro Cristiano Familiar Paraiso de Palma.

“A marriage where there’s a commitment really is a responsibility to work this out when things get challenging,” Reyes said. “Every marriage has problems but from the work of Christ, it can be a place for healing.”

According to Ephesians 5, the marriage commitment reflects the relationship between Christ and his church. The bond is strong and long-lasting. Echoing Genesis 1:24, Ephesians 5:31 says, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”

This commitment affects the entirety of the new family. It drives how husbands and wives treat each other. It informs how they treat their friends and relatives. Furthermore, it creates the foundation for how they care about their offspring.

Deeper Reflection:

  • How would you describe Christ’s relationship with the church?

  • What is the proper way to respond to Christ’s commitment to us?

  •
  •

Next Steps:

  • If you’re married, take your spouse on a date this week. During that time, talk about Christ’s relationship to the church and how that affects your relationship.

  • This week, take one action to make your marriage reflect Christ’s love of the church.
