During the week of Feb. 15, temperatures in Texas dropped significantly due to Winter Storm Uri, causing millions to face life with no electricity, water or supplies. Government and non-governmental organizations have stepped up to respond, including local Buckner programs, to provide water, food and relief to those in need across the state.

Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex

Prayers were answered, and continue to be, through:

  • Park Cities Baptist Church volunteers distributed hot meals, food boxes, milk and blankets Feb. 19 at the Family Hope Center at Bachman Lake. 
  • The City of Dallas distributed pallets of bottled water to local apartment complex residents Feb. 23 and 24 through the Buckner Family Hope Center at Bachman Lake.
  • The Family Hope Center at Bachman Lake opened its doors as a warming center to families without power as requested by the City of Dallas.
  • Hope & Encouragement for Humanity sent semi-trucks full of bottled water to the Buckner Center for Humanitarian Aid and the Family Hope Center at the MLB Rangers Campus in Dallas.

While many Buckner locations faced damage and lack of water as well, teams are currently working to restore service and repair infrastructure.

As we have continued to learn in the past year, leaning on each other in times of uncertainty has proven to be powerful in continuing to serve the vulnerable around us.
