A decade of service
Aramark celebrated their Global Day of Service, Aramark Building Community Day, at the Buckner Children and Family Services campus in Dallas earlier this month. This marks the 10th anniversary of Aramark volunteers spending their day serving Buckner programs and families in Dallas.
More than 100 Aramark volunteers completed a variety of service projects that will impact foster families, single parent families and other parents and children who participate in programs on campus.
More than just a paint job
The Evicks are a foster family who live on the Buckner Dallas campus. They’ve been foster parents for 8 years. Their cottage was one of the spaces Aramark volunteers spent time painting.
Doug and Vicki Evick moved to Dallas from New Braunfels to live on-campus as foster parents. Being in children’s ministry for more than two decades, as well as being public school teachers, the couple had experience interacting with children from all sorts of situations and backgrounds.
“We think God was calling us into this because if it’s not going to be us, then who’s it going to be? We feel qualified because God has called us, but we didn’t know everything about fostering,” they shared.
Living on campus has offered the Evicks and their foster children a community right outside their front door. Brightening their space is just one small way to pour back into a family who serves so many so well.
Volunteers served across the Dallas campus
In addition to painting five bedrooms across the campus, Aramark volunteers completed a variety of beautification projects. From repairing campus gazebos to painting fences and parking lot lines, as well as weeding and landscaping, the transformation through service was recognized by all.
The volunteers also provided a healthy cooking demonstration. Aramark is passionate about fostering healthy communities and improving access to healthier options for food. Over the years, Aramark teams have provided various cooking and food knowledge opportunities for Buckner program participants.
