Faith Focus: The most common superpower at Buckner

Last week, I had the pleasure of spending some time with a Buckner foster family in Midland, Texas. As they shared their story, I realized you were there as well.

Do you remember? Probably not. But you definitely were.

As they recalled all of the children they cared for in the past two years, they vividly communicated the great joy they experienced being foster parents – smiles, developmental milestones and growing faith.

They also relayed challenges they faced. That’s where you came in. The husband and wife each uttered a sentiment I hear over and over again from single mothers in Buckner Family Pathways programs and families in Buckner Family Hope Center efforts and nearly every foster parent I’ve met: “I could feel people praying for us. I could feel prayer making a difference.”

Those who have said often do so with a tear rolling down their cheek.

Buckner family, you are a praying family. In many ways, that is your superpower. Because of your willingness to get on your knees and pray, you are mighty. You tap into God’s power, asking him to protect children and strengthen families. These children and families notice the impact of your prayers. It changes lives.

Will you pray for those Buckner serves today?

Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them. – Matthew 18:19-20
