Leave a legacy that blesses children and seniors in need

Honoring the lives of Bessie and Stewart Chisum

According to Psychology Today, people are more likely to give when they understand the need they fulfill and when they can relate to the cause they support. Our beloved friends, Bessie and Stewart Chisum, are great examples of giving. With Bessie’s recent passing, Buckner International was honored to receive a generous gift from her estate, an extension of decades of support for vulnerable children and families in southeast Texas.

What is charitable giving and who benefits from it?

Creating a charitable gift through one’s estate is the ultimate act of generosity. It reflects a high degree of trust in the Buckner mission and in the impact the gift will have for the future.

BessieBessie and Stewart have always cared deeply for the vulnerable children and senior adults served by Buckner. For many years, and until her passing, Bessie was active in the Buckner Auxiliary, comprised of philanthropic ladies serving as ambassadors for Buckner Children and Family Services in southeast Texas.

Throughout the years, the Chisum family provided advertising opportunities for Buckner Foster Care and Adoption, in hopes of supporting Buckner place children in families. They were also quick to respond to critical needs of vulnerable children over the years.

The Chisum family also believed in the faith and works of broader Buckner ministries, trusting loved ones to be cared for at Calder Woods, a Buckner senior living community.

Estate planning can help others in need for years to come

Far-sighted gifts from trusts and estates help provide financial continuity and sustain critical programs during difficult times. Buckner is truly honored to have been remembered with such care by the Chisum family with this very special gift.

Where can I go to learn more about estate planning to benefit a nonprofit?

First, if you’re considering leaving a financial legacy for a nonprofit’s cause that you care about, you already have a generous heart and should be commended for planning in advance. Buckner tries to make it as easy and simple as possible for individuals or families interested in leaving a legacy to show God’s love to children, families and seniors in need.
