Praying Hannah's prayer for Samuel

"For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition which I asked of Him." -1 Samuel 1:27

In January 2014, I began praying for a child that I didn't know yet, a child who wasn't even born yet. From January to April, I prayed daily for this child knowing God knew them, what they needed and that He would protect that child until they were brought to our home. We have been a foster family for years and felt ready to care for another child.

As I prayed, God took me to 1 Samuel 1. I began to pray Hannah's prayer for this child that we did not know yet. That same week, the first week of April, Buckner called asking if we were ready for our next child. Of course the answer is always yes. They knew the baby was a boy and two months old; she would call back with more details. The second phone call told us his name: Samuel.

God answers prayers.

Even after leaving for nine months, God brought our Samuel back home. The day he came back we were still Mom and Dad, and he walked in the house like he had never left. He knew he was home, too.

We did change the middle and last name, but he is and will forever be our Samuel.

Kerra Meurer and her husband, Micah, are Buckner foster and adoptive parents in Amarillo, Texas.
