Volunteers serving through Buckner International today are cleaning out homes of families affected by Hurricane Harvey.

The first teams of people are serving in homes identified by Buckner Family Hope Center at Houston/Aldine as having immediate needs preventing families from entering them.  Halliburton volunteers are cutting out walls, pulling up carpet and removing debris.

Forty additional volunteers are preparing donations for distribution. People are coming by for what they need.

“It’s been some very dark times," said Shawna Roy, director of the Buckner Family Hope at Houston/Aldine. "People are lost and don’t know where to turn. I’m so glad we’re here to shine hope in this situation. We’re here to let people know we’re hear for you today and throughout this journey of recovery.”

They are part of a larger Buckner response. Individuals, families, churches and organizations have donated $25,090 for the relief effort a well as truckloads of hygiene items and shoes. The Church of Eleven22 in Jacksonville, Fla. is bringing three truckloads of items for the affected region. As part of the Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls® DFW Shoe Drive, Leon Capital Group in Dallas collected about 800 shoes. Church Bible study groups have given items.

The donated items will begin arriving in Southeast Texas as early as Monday.

In addition to these donated items, South Main Baptist Church and Buckner International are donating more than 10,000 new pairs of shoes to Houston flood victims. The shoes were collected by South Main as part of their annual Shoes for Orphan Souls drive.

“The Buckner family is once again showing how incredible it is,” said Buckner President and CEO Albert Reyes. “Thank you for giving so generously to minister to those who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey. Your gifts will continue to bless families for weeks to come.”

While Buckner families and staff all have checked in safe, some have lost their homes, cars and belongings to the storm. These items will help families directly impacted by Harvey.

Buckner continues accepting hygiene items and financial donations. For a complete list of items Buckner is collecting, click here.
