Faith Focus: Small steps of faith

Friday was National Shoe Day, and after distributing more than 3 million shoes over 20 years, we at Buckner know a thing or two about footwear.

Many of us are fortunate enough that the biggest concern we have about our shoes is which one to put on in the morning. But Buckner President and CEO Albert Reyes reminds us this isn’t true for many of the vulnerable children Buckner serves around the world:

“Shoes are often the most difficult item to get in materially poor communities. We can make clothes; we can grow food; water filters can produce clean water over the course of decades before they give out. It’s quite difficult though to make a pair of durable shoes. And for many children around the world, a pair of shoes can be the difference between a hopeful future or a bleak one.”

Taking the small step of faith of donating a pair of shoes through Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls® does more than most of us can fathom. Shoes protect little feet from infection. They’re required for children to go to school. And giving a pair to a child reminds them how loved they are.

God multiplies our small gifts to him. He uses our service to grow his kingdom and change lives. We’ve seen this to be true time and again through Shoes for Orphan Souls. God has blessed the giver and the recipient.

Just ask Dulce. Or Natasha. Or Juan Pablo.

Where will you take a small step of faith this week and let God use you for his glory?

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. –Galatians 6:9-10
