Serving the Lord with joy

A devotion on who we live for

When I started working in my first ever social work role, I wrote Colossians 3:23-24 on my mirror so I would see it and remember every day what it is I am doing, why I am doing it and who I am doing it for.

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." – Colossians 3:23-24

It is in knowing I am serving the Lord that gives me strength, hope and courage to get up each day and start fresh with a full heart to be the hands and feet of Jesus and serve Buckner clients. What a joy it is to do the work we do and may we always remember we are doing it for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

There are times in social work – or any line of work – where it can feel heavy, and we become weary. In these moments, we can look back on Colossians and say, with a full heart and with joy, Lord, we serve you! It renews my spirit and the passion within me to continue to do what I do each day.

I hope this verse will be renewing for you and serve as warmth to a weary soul. May it bring you the excitement, passion and fire within you to continue to serve as you do – for our Lord.

May the warmth of the sun, blooming of the flowers and trees and the renewed life of spring bring you peace, joy and a renewed spirit to continue in the work we do every day!
