Buckner has been serving children and
families in the Amarillo community since 1985
and today provides a number of family,
community and empowerment programs
to help vulnerable children and families including:
Programs
Buckner Family Place
Buckner Family Place in Amarillo provides single
parent families the opportunity to live in a safe secure
environment while completing his or her educational
or vocational goals and learn the necessary skills
needed to become self-sufficient. Families are provided
support through the provision of affordable housing,
financial assistance, and case management services
which include referrals to parenting education,
budget training, life skills and individual and group
counseling.
Buckner Family Place also extends services to
individuals with physical disabilities while the
program participant completes his or her educational
or vocational goals.
All applicants must be 18 years of age or older and
be currently enrolled in an educational or vocational

Bruce Ford Community Center After-School Care
The Bruce Ford Community Center provides students
ages 5-12 from Whittier and Robert E. Lee elementary schools with a safe, structured learning environment
after school. Students participate in character building
and recreational activities, while learning social skills, receiving one-on-one tutoring and mentoring through staff and volunteers.
The Community Center also provides a summer day camp filled with recreation and
enrichment activities in collaboration with other social service agencies, businesses and organizations. All services are provided at a minimal cost to the families.

Foster Care and Adoption
Buckner provides the Amarillo community with training and resources needed to become a family to a child living in the state's custody or to a child available for adoption in Texas or internationally.
