20 Years of Buckner Peru
Leadership, staff, donors and volunteers of Buckner Internacional gathered in Lima on Sept. 17 to celebrate the 20thaniversario de Buckner Perú and recognize their service to vulnerable children and families.
The event brought together over 75 longtime collaborators of Buckner Peru including representatives from local churches, businesses, nonprofit organizations, volunteers and community leaders whose support has helped strengthen children and families throughout the organization’s history. Guests heard from Buckner International CEO Dr. Albert Reyes, Buckner Peru Executive Director Patricia Nieto and Associate Vice President of International Operations Rocio López, as well as personal testimonies from individuals impacted by Buckner programs.
“For 20 years in Peru, countless individuals like all of you have chosen to become the hands and feet of Jesus,” said Reyes. “You have opened doors, shared resources, offered encouragement, volunteered and prayed. You stood beside vulnerable children and families and said, ‘You are not alone.’”
Guests were invited to write personal messages expressing their hope for Buckner Peru, providing an opportunity to reflect on the organization’s legacy while looking ahead to its continued growth. Organizers later shared that they read each message and were grateful for their encouragement and support.
“The Buckner Peru team does not carry this mission alone,” said López. “You are supported by thousands of Buckner collaborators and friends around the world, as well as by the wisdom and experience of a nonprofit ministry with more than 145 years of history walking alongside you.”
Buckner began work in Peru in Peru in 2006 and has impacted nearly 900,000 lives. Through its Family Hope Centers, Family Permanency Program and transitional homes in Lima and Cusco, Buckner Peru helps families and individuals work to break the generational cycle of poverty and grow into their God-given potential.
“This milestone is a testament to the legacy of hope that Buckner Peru has built alongside our collaborators,” said Nieto. “It was an encouragement as we look toward the next 20 years to reach even more people with the resources and support to build a strong future for Peru.”
