Buckner Westminster Place celebrates 25 years

The senior living community welcomed family and friends for a fish fry

Residents, families and grandchildren came together yesterday to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Buckner Westminster Place with a fish fry and fishing tournament.

But the main highlight was the opening of a time capsule. Five years ago, senior adults at Westminster Place buried a time capsule filled with newspaper clippings and other items that represented 2016.

Residents and families enjoyed looking back on the mementos and seeing how things have changed … or stayed the same.

There were activities for everyone, as the festivities also included food, music, guest speakers and tours of the campus.

And for those who participated in the fishing tournament, trophies and ribbons were awarded to those who caught the highest number of fish and the largest fish.

“We are excited to celebrate the longevity of Westminster Place in the Longview community with our residents and their families,” said David Sims, executive director at Buckner Westminster Place. “As the only faith-based senior living community in the area, it is an honor to serve thousands of East Texans over the years as they decided to call Westminster Place home.”
