Faith Focus: And the Oscar goes to...
Last tonight, much of the world gathered around screens of various sizes to see the fashion of the stars and watch who was crowned the very best in their respective fields in Hollywood.
It’s among the most elegant scenes of the year, with the signature red carpet followed by a series of rehearsed (and some not so rehearsed) speeches followed by after parties late into the night. It is the definition of an industry being celebrated for its hard work.
It’s a scene many of us can’t even imagine. It’s recognition like few of us will ever receive.
Nonetheless, today you’re playing your role. You’re working hard on what you need to do. You’re earning money. You’re raising your children. You’re being the best friend you know to be – even during some very difficult circumstances.
And you’re not doing it for any recognition. You’re doing it because you’re attempting to honor God in all you do. You’re his ambassador, his representative for others around you.
No, chances are, it won’t earn you an Oscar. It might not even win you an award at all. But others are noticing what you’re doing. How you carry yourself is drawing people closer to God.
And that’s exactly the kind of recognition he seeks.
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. -Colossians 3:17
Deeper reflection:
- How can seemingly small actions impact the people around us?
- How do we know if our lives are impacting others?
Next steps:
- This week, live out Colossians 3:17. Do everything in the name of the Lord.
