Faith Focus: It all matters
"Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper." -Jeremiah 29:7
I recently traveled to Guatemala with my church on spring break to work in the communities Buckner is serving. I think my whole group would agree Guatemala stole a piece of our hearts.
The people of Guatemala showed us so much love. From every child and person we interacted with to our trip leaders and our translators, it was evident these people loved unconditionally.
I loved getting to visit the children in the orphanage and the women and children from the Family Hope Center. They were all so different but each so welcoming and eager to hear God's word.
Through these different experiences we were able to see how the Lord is working in and through the ministry Buckner does. I, along with my teammates, was so blessed to have had an opportunity to be a part of the ministry. It was nothing any one of us did, but the Lord used each of us to make an impact in the lives of these people.
My favorite moment of the week was when I had the chance to wash and put shoes on the feet of one of the little girls I made friends with. Tucked inside the shoes was a handwritten note from the donor or volunteer that read, "We love you." In an attempt to read it to her I said, "me encanta yo" which was so wrong but her face just absolutely lit up and she never let the note leave her hand.
And that, my friends, is what it is all about. Not all of us are called or able to go overseas and serve, but that doesn't mean you can't make an impact from right where you are. Donating a pair of shoes, writing a note, giving financially, all of it can make a difference. The country of Guatemala needs you! Pray for the people and this country, that they would find hope and deliverance in you alone.
