Fundraising effort begins for Baptist Retirement Community expansion
SAN ANGELO, Texas – Fundraising efforts have begun for the expansion and renovation of Baptist Retirement Community. The project, estimated at $22 million, will target four key areas of the campus: Construction of two new GREEN HOUSE® homes; two new assisted living/memory care homes; renovation and expansion of the existing high-rise into an independent living community and community center; and campus beautification.
Steve Massey, Buckner vice president for development, said the initial fundraising emphasis will focus on the Green House project. “The existing Green House homes have proven to be a great model for long-term care and these two new homes will add care for 24 more residents.”
The proposed two new assisted living/memory care homes will provide 30 additional units of care, while the renovation of the high-rise will become the centerpiece of the senior living community, he said.
“The renovation and expansion of the existing high-rise into an independent living community and community center will transform the campus,” Massey said. “Plans include a Texas-style renovation of the exterior and 80 independent living units, and a community center with wellness components, and amenities such as a dining room, library, bistro and computer learning area.”
Since 1951, Baptist Retirement Community has operated in San Angelo as a not-for-profit senior living community providing a full continuum of services for elders. It affiliated with the Buckner Retirement Services family of communities in 2010.
