“I’m excited to be able to give back to the Dallas community,” said Singleton, who purchased 200 Turkeys for Buckner-selected families.
“To be able to help out a family that may not have been able to have a traditional Thanksgiving meal means a lot to me. I appreciate Kroger coming on board and helping make this happen.”
Kroger also joined in on the effort and supplied 200 boxes of stuffing, cans of cranberry, sweet potatoes and green beans.
“Kroger is very proud to support James Singleton and the Dallas Mavericks to help feed families this Thanksgiving season,” stated Gary Huddleston, Director of Consumer Affairs for Kroger “We believe it is important to support charitable causes that are important to our associates and customers.”
Jill Varnell, who works as gift officer in Buckner International said she was inspired to see the humility and service displayed by Singleton.
“I was amazed at how servant-hearted James was,” she said. “He insisted on personally distributing the turkeys to the families and was out there carrying and lugging boxes around,” Varnell said. “He was not what some people might assume an athlete in the NBA would be like. It was really wonderful to witness.”
