During the month of May, Parkway Place residents and staff raised money and gave shoes to Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls, the largest humanitarian aid project of Buckner International. Residents collected more than 130 pairs of shoes and raised $700 during the month-long drive.
The shoes arrived at the Buckner Center for Humanitarian Aid in Dallas this week.
The residents kicked off the drive with a party in early May. They learned about the Shoes for Orphan Souls program and munched on shoe-shaped cookies. A group of women on campus made Iris cards to help support the drive. One resident, Martha Wiebe, painted several cards with tennis shoes on the front.
To wrap up the drive, residents gathered on May 23 to write notes to children who will receive the shoes.
“The residents were excited to get involved and give to such a great cause,” said Sunny Chatagnier, Parkway Place assistant executive director. “I believe that as a whole, they are quite proud to be affiliated with Buckner. We love seeing multi-generational partnerships between the Buckner ministries.”
