Roy named executive director of Buckner Family Hope Center Houston/Aldine
HOUSTON – Buckner International has appointed Shawna Roy director of its Family Hope Center Houston/Aldine.
Roy previously served the Hope Center for nine years and knows the community well. She has grown up in the ministry under the guidance of her mother, Sylvia Bolling, who founded the effort by giving away items out of the trunk of her car in 1990.
“This is the community in which I grew up, attended school and operated a business,” Roy said. “Being the center’s program director for nine years and growing so many valuable relationships with the families, businesses, churches and schools in the community has prepared me well to step into this position. I will work very hard to continue the legacy started by my mother. I am grateful to now have the privilege of leading, guiding and growing the center in its next season of serving our community’s youth and families.”
The Hope Center is a staple of stability in the community, providing a variety of social services, an after-school program, a resale shop and a variety of efforts that aid and empower children and families.
Judy Morgan, executive director of Buckner in Houston, believes Roy’s experience with the Hope Center and familiarity with the area makes her the ideal person to lead the ministry into the future.
“Shawna is a natural leader, one who easily earns the respect of staff, clients, community leaders and other stakeholders. She understands the need to honor the legacy of the Aldine program, and at the same time, looks forward with enthusiasm to what God has in store for this dynamic ministry.”
