State Senator Hinojosa attends Buckner Family Hope Center™ Pantry Dedication
A dedication for the new pantry at the Buckner Family Hope Center™ at Peñitas was attended by State Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa, who represents District 20 where the center is located. The pantry dedication was also attended by Family Hope Center staff, volunteers and clients.
The pantry is stocked with a variety of household goods, including cleaning supplies, hygiene products, school supplies, toys, and kitchen items. Pantry goods are available to Family Hope Center clients by redeeming Buckner Bucks, which they earn through attending classes and family coaching sessions.
“The idea for the pantry arose from the pandemic,” said Jorge Rodriguez, director of the Family Hope Center at Peñitas. “We saw a way to better meet the needs of our clients by pivoting some of our methods of service and maximizing our space and resources in the center.”
The pantry will be stocked through community donations and using the Family Hope Center’s annual budget.
Following the dedication, Senator Hinojosa spoke with Buckner staff and clients to learn more about how the Family Hope Center strengthens families in District 20.
"As many of our neighbors, family members and friends are facing unprecedented challenges and financial situations, basic necessities should not be one of their worries," said Senator Hinojosa.
"I appreciate the tireless work of the Buckner Family Hope Center employees and volunteers, and I know this pantry in Peñitas will allow them to help provide supplies to many families who need our support. We are all in this together and I encourage others who have the means to also donate to this center to meet the needs of our community."
The pantry is one of the ways the Family Hope Center serves the community. Buckner Family Hope Centers provide families with critical services, aid and coaching to keep them strong and decrease the likelihood of abuse, neglect and removal of children. They are child-centered, family-focused places where families go to find hope, support and empowerment in their community.
