Wells Fargo grant helps Buckner build homes for low-income families in Rio Grande Valley
The Wells Fargo Builds program awarded a $20,000 grant May 24 to Buckner Rio Grande Valley to build homes for low-income homeowners.
Wells Fargo in the South Texas Region has long partnered with Buckner International to improve the lives of struggling residents in the Valley, specifically Peñitas. Wells Fargo employees have volunteered at and supported the work of the Buckner Family Hope Center in Peñitas.
“It’s rewarding for our Wells Fargo team to work with Buckner International RGV and further the dream of safe and sustainable homeownership for local low-income people from our region,” said Alma Ortega Johnson, regional bank president for Wells Fargo in South Texas and El Paso. “Working together, we can create safe housing; increase the number of homeowners in the Rio Grande Valley and strengthen our community.”
Buckner Rio Grande Valley, based in Mission, is a faith-based nonprofit ministry dedicated to transforming the lives of vulnerable children, families and senior adults. Buckner Rio Grande Valley is an extension of Buckner International, which was founded in 1879 in Texas and today serves people in the United States and internationally through a variety of programs designed to protect children and build strong families.
Buckner’s programs include foster care and adoption, family transition programs, community-based family preservation programs and retirement services for senior adults. Buckner also provides humanitarian aid and crisis relief to poverty-stricken children and families.
“On behalf of Buckner International, the Buckner Family Hope Center at Peñitas, and our Buckner Missions program, as well as all the Rio Grande Valley families we serve, thank you to Wells Fargo for its generous housing foundation grant,” said Diego Silva, director of the Family Hope Center at Peñitas.
“Over the years, Wells Fargo has been extremely active in supporting the work of Buckner in the Valley, especially with our home-builds. Buckner families work hard to better their situations financially, emotionally and spiritually, and the partnership with Wells Fargo allows us to provide them with a safe, loving home to continue grow stronger.”
