Westminster Place celebrates 20 years of serving senior adults
LONGVIEW, Texas– Twenty years ago, Buckner Westminster Place opened its doors to enrich the lives of senior adults in East Texas. Every day since, the Longview senior living community has worked diligently to support its residents by creating a community in which seniors can thrive and continue living actively.
To commemorate this significant milestone, Westminster Place hosted an anniversary celebration during which staff, residents and family members buried a time capsule in the ground with residents’ and team members’ collective thoughts tucked inside. Reflections included things they were thankful for, concerns about the world today and predictions for the future.
“Though we opened 20 years ago, we wanted to capture what residents and team members are feeling right here and right now,” said Wes Wells, executive director of Buckner Westminster Place. “The time capsule is the perfect way to record our reflections in 2016. These entries will also provide interesting perspectives to reflect on five years from now at our 25th anniversary celebration!”
The ceremony took place outside by a lake on Westminster Place’s property. Residents, team members and families came out to celebrate the occasion and honor the work Westminster Place has accomplished over the last 20 years.
“We feel privileged to serve seniors and their families in the Longview community for 20 years now,” said Wells. “It is a rewarding experience with meaningful memories made and fun life lessons learned. The residents are wise and have much wisdom to share with us all. We enjoy learning from them and hearing their stories every day. We are thankful to serve the greatest generation of all.”
