Young Life Comes to Camp Buckner in 2010
BURNET, Texas – Young Life, a non-denominational Christian organization that seeks to share Jesus Christ with adolescents through relational ministry, will host middle school and high school students and at Camp Buckner in 2010. The kids coming to camp Buckner throughout the summer are part of WyldLife, Young Life’s ministry to middle school students, and YoungLives, their ministry to teen mothers.
Camp Buckner, located in the Texas Hill Country between Burnet and Marble Falls, Texas, has served as the scenic backdrop for youth camp and retreats for more than 20 years and is part of global Christian ministry, Buckner International.
“We couldn’t be happier that Young Life has chosen to partner with us for their summer camps,” said Chad Patterson, administrator at Camp Buckner. “Their ministry is focused on building relationships and changing lives, which is at the heart of what we do. It’s a great partnership that I hope will last a long time.”
Young Life will begin bringing campers to Camp Buckner in June 2010. They will use the camp for up to six weeks. Each week-long camp will host kids from Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.
“Camp is an extension of the school-year ministry we do,” said Terry Swenson, vice president of communications for Young Life. “We always say we don’t send kids to camp, we take them to camp. It’s a critical difference. Young Life camps get kids out of the patterns of daily life that cloud out hearing the Gospel.
“Our founder used the phrase, ‘It’s a sin to bore a kid with the Gospel,’” Swenson said. “So everything we do reflects the grandeur and beauty of our Savior. Our camps are an opportunity to treat kids like royalty, and the fact that Camp Buckner was chosen for this shows that it’s the type of place that would allow for extravagance for our kids.”
Founded in 1941, Young Life is a worldwide organization for middle school, high school and college students. Young Life is active in more than 50 countries reaching nearly one million kids annually. Young Life leaders bring almost 90,000 kids to one of our 20 premier camping properties in operation in North and Central America; approximately 20,000 kids experience Young Life camping in other locations around the world. Camp Buckner is one of five camps Young Life leases in the United States.
Camp Buckner is part of Buckner International, a diverse global ministry that seeks to make life better for orphans, vulnerable children and families. Based in Dallas, Texas, Buckner International has been answering children’s needs since 1879 through humanitarian aid, foster care and adoption services, volunteer missions opportunities, community programs and more.
