Postadoption Support

Adoption is a lifelong journeyand needs can change over time

Postadoption is when work begins to support a child who has experienced the loss of their biological parents. Postadopt support, also known as postpermanency, is available to Buckner adoptees (children and adults), birth families, and foster/kinship/adoptive families throughout their lives.

Children and families often need continued support and resources even after permanency has been reached through adoption, permanent managing conservatorship (PMC), or reunification.

Adoption doesn’t just impact children. Adult adopted persons can experience a variety of new emotions and process their adoption differently as they age.

Buckner provides six months of ongoing support after permanency is reached through adoption, permanent managing conservatorship (PMC), or reunification. For after-care families, a postpermanency worker will reach out to the family twice a month during this period to help identify resources or work through challenges that may surface.
